Beginning January 1, 2007, all books will need to carry an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) with 13 digits, instead of the 10 digits we are used to seeing, because the limit to the possible combinations of 10-digit numbers is fast approaching. With the introduction of the new 13-digit ISBN, the old 10-digit ISBNs will also need to be expressed as 13 digits.
